In a big loss for Congress just ahead of the civic polls, an ex MP from West Delhi and three time MLA from Congress Mahabal Mishra has joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday.
Mishra is a former Congress MP from West Delhi, a three-time MLA from Dwarka, and a former Councillor.
Mishra joined the AAP in the presence of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia during his public rally in Delhi’s Paharganj.
His son Vinay Mishra is an AAP MLA from Dwarka.
Mishra, an ex-serviceman Mishra was an MP from West Delhi between 2009-14. He was an MLA between 1998 to 2008 and councillor in 1997. He was stated to be a prominent ‘Poorvanchali’ face of the Congress party in Delhi.
On Sunday, he suddenly appeared at the stage of AAP, where the party convenor and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal was at a ‘Nukkad’ meeting with the people in Paharganj area. Kejriwal was holding a public rally for MCD elections.
From the stage, Kejriwal announced that “we have a good news” that “a big leader of Delhi and face of ‘poorvanchalis’ Mahabal Mishra ji is joining AAP today.”
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was also present at the stage. Both the leaders hugged him and welcome him into the party.
Mishra joining the party before MCD elections could be seen as a major political development as far the ‘poorvanchali’ votes are concerned.
Delhi has 30 lakh people from eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
Mishra’s son Vinay Mishra, who is already an AAP MLA from Dwarka. He welcomed the move of his father.
Later, Vinay tweeted, “When I joined Aam Aadmi Party, father was very angry, I told him, this is a party of common people, they have a vision for the public, one day you will also have to come, and today he joined.”
While addressing the people Kejriwal promised that his party will work towards cleaning Delhi. He assured that there will be no heap of garbage in the city.
He also said the BJP, which has ruled MCD for 15 years did nothing. However, AAP had brought neat and clean schools, Mohalla Clinics and free electricity and water.
Kejriwal further said the central government run BJP is stopping him from working. “They stop us from working for the welfare of the people. There is one LG ‘sahab’ who is stopping us from working. Now we need AAP in both the places. Delhi and MCD. In assembly elections, you gave us 67 seats out of 70. In MCD too you have to give us more than 250 so that we can rule without any hindrance,” said Kejriwal.
Manish Sisodia, gave a slogan “Sarkaar Kejriwal ki, Parshad (councillor) Kejriwal ka” during the meeting.
