NEW DELHI: Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan has acquired a plot in The Sarayu, a seven-star enclave in Ayodhya, just ahead of the grand opening of the Ram temple later this month.

The Mumbai-based developer, The House of Abhinandan Lodha (HoABL), has remained tight-lipped about the deal’s specifics, but industry insiders estimate the plot to be around 10,000 sqft, valued at Rs 14.5 crore.

The Sarayu, sprawling across 51 acres, is set to be inaugurated on January 22, coinciding with the auspicious consecration ceremony of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya. The enclave, located 15 minutes from the temple and a half-hour from the airport, is expected to feature a five-star palace hotel upon completion in March 2028.

Expressing his excitement, Bachchan stated, “I am looking forward to embark on this journey with the House of Abhinandan lodha for The Sarayu in Ayodhya, a city that has a special place in my heart. The timeless spirituality and cultural richness of Ayodhya have forged an emotional connection that transcends geographical boundaries. I am looking forward to building my home in the global spiritual capital.”

The Sarayu project represents a significant milestone for HoABL, with Chairman Abhinandan Lodha declaring Bachchan as the “first citizen” of The Sarayu. Lodha highlighted the global spiritual significance of Ayodhya and expressed confidence in the city’s economic potential, citing Bachchan’s investment as a testament to Ayodhya’s deep-rooted spiritual heritage.

“Mr. Bachchan’s association adds extraordinary prestige, turning The Sarayu into a symbol of Ayodhya’s global spiritual significance,” he added.

Bachchan’s investment is part of the plotted development within The Sarayu, complemented by a five-star palace hotel in collaboration with the Brookfield group-owned Leela Palaces, Hotels, and Resorts. This move comes amid Ayodhya’s ongoing infrastructural development following the Supreme Court’s 2019 decision awarding the site of the Babri Masjid to Hindus, leading to a surge in land prices within the city and its outskirts.

Commenting on the development, Anuj Puri, Chairman of Anarock Group, noted that property prices in Ayodhya experienced a substantial increase of 25-30 per cent post the court verdict, with average land prices ranging from Rs 1,500 to Rs 6,000 per sqft.

Launched in 2021, HoABL has been credited with transforming the land-buying experience by introducing transparency and using technology. The company’s global appeal is evidenced by its previous project, which attracted customers from 19 countries.

Moreover, HoABL has ambitious plans for luxury hotels in Benares, Vrindavan, Shimla, and Amritsar, totaling an investment of Rs 2,000 crore.
