One of the most eligible bachelors, Rahul Gandhi, was left amused during his interaction with MGNREGA women members in Tamil Nadu after they came up with a matrimonial suggestion for the Gandhi scion.
The former Congress chief, whose relationship status is fodder for gossip columns, was interacting with the women in Kanyakumari’s Marthandam area during Congress’ Bharat Jodo Yatra.
Rahul Gandhi and several other party members are on a 150-day, 3,570-kilometer yatra to protest rising prices and unemployment.
During the first three days, the Congress leaders travelled to Tamil Nadu. The yatra entered Kerala on Saturday evening, where it received a rousing welcome from the party activists. During the yatra, Congress leaders will interact with people and conduct rallies in several parts of the country.
On Sunday morning, Yatra commenced its 19-day-long Kerala leg from the Parassala area of the capital city of Thiruvananthapuram.
Rahul Gandhi started the yatra after being formally welcomed by Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president and MP K Sudhakaran, Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the state assembly VD Satheesan, AICC general secretary Tariq Anwar and other senior Congress leaders.
The other senior party leaders who welcomed the former party chief included Congress MPs KC Venugopal and Shashi Tharoor, as well as former Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy and ex-LoP Ramesh Chennithala.
After entering Kerala from Parassala, close to the Tamil Nadu border, Gandhi would travel 450 km to Nilambur in Malappuram over a 19-day period.
According to party leaders, the Yatra will enter the Kollam district on September 14. It will reach Alappuzha on September 17 and pass through Ernakulam district on September 21 and 22 before reaching Thrissur on September 23. The Yatra will enter Karnataka on September 30.
