Inspired by Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, the Indian Overseas Congress (IOC) conducted a Unity Walk from Times Square to Union Square, New York, in the United States.
Interestingly, the Unity Walk was organised on the day of the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabh Patel, the man who united the nation, and the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
Sam Pitroda, chairman of the Indian Overseas Congress, flagged off the unity walk from Times Square in which more than 300 people from the diaspora walked via Fifth Avenue to Union Square, where the Mahatma Gandhi statue was garlanded.
In his concluding remarks, Pitroda urged India to continue to be led by the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi. He also urged us to respect the ideals of democracy, freedom, human rights, justice, equality, inclusion, and related values and wisdom outlined in the Indian Constitution.
The Indian Overseas Congress organised the Unity Walk under the leadership of Mohinder Singh Gilzian, president of the US chapter, and many others.
The IOC US declared solidarity with all initiatives that uphold the country’s constitution, said Virendra Vashist, secretary of the IOC, in Delhi.
Rahul Says No To TRS
Meanwhile, during his Bharat Jodo Yatra in Telangana’s Kothur, Rahul Gandhi stated that there is no question of a relationship between the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and the Congress.
He also exuded confidence that his party would win the Gujarat assembly elections and said that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) only created a buzz in the state based on advertisements and had no ground support.
The former Congress chief also refused to comment on the tragedy in Morbi, where a bridge collapsed, leaving more than 130 dead. He said that he did not wish to politicise the incident.
