KOLKATA: All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) seems to have distanced itself from Industries minister Partha Chatterjee and his aide Arpita Mukherjee, who were under Enforcement Directorate (ED)’s custody in relation to the Bengal SSC Recruitment Scam case.

In an official reaction, following the arrests of Chatterjee, AITC, on Sunday, said that the money recovered by the ED officials has no links with Trinamool Congress.

AITC said that they are closely monitoring the development of the case. They also said that the party has faith in the judiciary.

“AITC will not tolerate any malpractice either in the party or the government. So, once the judiciary comes out with its verdict, Trinamool Congress will act accordingly,” AITC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said.

“In absolute terms, we wish to clarify that Trinamool Congress has no relationship with either the money that was recovered or the woman from whose place the money was recovered,” he said.

“If what is being said in the media is indeed true, then Trinamool Congress will act against anyone guilty, but that is for the court to decide on who’s guilty. We have faith in the judiciary and respect the law,” Ghosh said.

However, Bengal minister Firhad Hakim put the blame on BJP. “Had Partha Chatterjee joined the BJP two months back when the court gave the case to the CBI, nothing would have happened to him. This is because BJP is a washing machine and anyone joining the party is absolved of all their previous crime. Since Partha da is in the TMC, these cases are coming up against him,” Hakim said.
