Trinamool Congress (TMC) began their preparations for the Bengal panchayat elections with a massive campaign, capitalising on the festive mood that began with Durga Puja.
The campaign, which will begin on October 11, and continue till October 22, will see close to 30 guest figures from TMC reaching out to the people and exchanging ‘Bijoya’ greetings.
According to a TMC spokesperson, “this campaign will also showcase how central agencies are targeting and making moves against TMC leaders and will apprise people about the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s anti-people policy.”
The BJP had already upped the ante as the party leaders said the ruling TMC would face more troubles in December. The main opposition party in the state is also preparing itself for the upcoming panchayat election by hosting several meetings at the state level.
The state unit has also seen the intervention of the party’s national president, Jagat Prakash Nadda, on incidents reported during the ‘Nabanna Abhiyan’, where the central team visited the injured and noted a detailed report. The report was handed over to the national president.
Speaking to The New Indian on this issue, TMC’s Rajya Sabha MP Dola Sen said, “I wish the BJP very happy dreaming. They can dream whatever they want, but it’s just a dream.”
“TMC is very much connected with the people at the grassroots level. The chief minister of our state is our strength and she will protect the party from such falsifying things,” Sen said.
Political experts believe that the upcoming panchayat election will play a crucial role in shaping Bengal’s politics. However, it will also add an important perspective to the 2024 general election.
