NEW DELHI: In a case of confrontation between police forces, West Bengal CID on Wednesday accused Delhi Police of preventing it from doing its lawful duty in executing a search warrant in connection with its probe into the case linked to Jharkhand MLAs, who were recently caught with cash in Howrah.

In a tweet, the West Bengal CID said, “In course of investigation of Panchla PS Case No 276/22 a team of CID which had gone to Delhi to execute a search warrant issued by Ld Court has been stopped from doing their lawful duty on the direction of DCP South West. Personal intervention of Commissioner of Police of Delhi is requested.”

It also attached a copy of the warrant along with the tweet.

The search was to take place at the premises of Siddharth Mazumdar in South Delhi’s upscale Chanakyapuri area.

The DCP South West and the Delhi Police have so far not reacted to the claims made by West Bengal CID.

Three Jharkhand MLAs of the Congress were intercepted on Saturday in Howrah.

They were later arrested by the West Bengal police after they were caught with huge amounts of cash in the Howrah district. Later, the CID took over the case.

The Congress suspended the three party MLAs on Sunday and accused the BJP of trying to topple its coalition government in Jharkhand.

The West Bengal Police acting on a tip-off intercepted an SUV in which Congress MLAs Irfan Ansari, Rajesh Kachchap and Naman Bixal Kongari were travelling on national highway-16 at Ranihati in Howrah and allegedly found a huge amount of cash in the vehicle.

Ansari is the MLA of Jamtara, while Kachchap is the legislator of Khijri in Ranchi district and Kongari is the MLA of Kolebira in Simdega district.
