The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday announced the 15-member Indian squad for the T20 World Cup which will take place in Australia later this year. Rohit Sharma will lead the team in the marquee tournament. KL Rahul is named the vice-captain of the team.

Pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel, who missed the Asia Cup due to injuries, are included in the squad. Arshdeep Singh and Bhuvneshwar Kumar are other seamers in the team, while Mohammad Shami is among the stand-by players.

All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who recently had a knee surgery, is left out of the team. Axar Patel, Deepak Hooda and R Ashwin have made the cut on account of being all-rounders. But the biggest trump card for India at present is Hardik Pandya who has been in scorching form in 2022.

Deepak Chahar and Ravi Bishnoi have performed creditably but they are named as stand-by players and will only find a place if any member gets injured.

Before the Asia Cup, there were doubts over Virat Kohli’s selection for the T20 World Cup but the champion batter thumped a couple of fifties and a whirlwind hundred against Afghanistan to seal this place.

Both the wicket-keepers Dinesh Karthik and Rishabh Pant are also included in the squad.

Hardik Pandya, Arshdeep Singh and Bhuvneshwar Kumar will be reporting to the NCA for conditioning-related work during the course of the home series against Australia and South Africa. Bhuvneshwar will miss the South Africa series while Hardik and Arshdeep will skip the Australia series beginning September 20.
