NEW DELHI: India’s richest man Mukesh Ambani has no plans to relocate or shift base to London or to any other country in the world.

Reliance Industries Ltd issued a statement on Friday to scotch rumours that Ambani, who is Reliance Industries Limited Chairman, and his family were shifting to the United Kingdom and will become Non Resident Indian (NRI) to divide their time between London and Mumbai.

RIL statement was a reaction to a news story that appeared on several media outlets, “A recent report in a newspaper has led to the unwarranted and baseless speculation in social media regarding the Ambani family’s plans to partly reside in Stoke Park, London. Reliance will like to clarify that the Chairman and his family have no plans whatsoever to relocate  or reside in London or anywhere else in the World”.

The report mentioned how Ambanis spent most of their time during the pandemic in Antilia, the posh address at Altamount Road in Mumbai and that family was in need of a new property to beat the blues and shift as and when it was available.

RIL statement said that it’s indeed true that the company had acquired Stoke Park estate recently but would like to clarify that the acquisition of heritage property is aimed at enhancing this as a premier golfing and sporting resort.

“This acquisition will add to the fast growing consumer business of the group,” the statement said.

Some reports had suggested that the purchase took for 57 million British Pounds.

There was speculation over whether Ambanis flew to London on Diwali as against their past ritual to celebrate it inside Antilia.

“Ambanis are expected to return to Mumbai in next few days and will return to their newly acquired address in London somewhere in April 2022,” said a senior source.
