Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina joined the folk artists, matched their steps, and broke into a jig as she alighted from the flight at the Jaipur airport on Thursday. The folk artists greeting her beamed with joy as an exuberant Hasina sported a spontaneous smile. She was welcomed by Rajasthan Education Minister BD Kalla and Chief Secretary Usha Sharma at the airport.

Later, she visited the dargah of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti in Ajmer. The dargah was completely evacuated for security reasons as Hasina visited it. The lanes leading to the dargah were also closed and traffic diverted. More than 30 ministers and relatives of her cabinet accompanied the Bangladesh PM. Hasina offered prayers at Astana Sharif. She was welcomed by the Dargah Committee.

Tight security arrangements were made by the police and administration. All shops and houses from the fountain circle of Ajmer to Dargah market via Delhi Gate were also closed from 11 am.

There was a ban on people standing on the balcony of any building, house, shop, hotel, and guest house in Dargah market. Only holders of passes, issued by the district administration, were allowed to enter the area.

Hasina has visited the shrine of Khwaja Garib Nawaz in Ajmer several times in the past. Being the PM, she had come to Ajmer Sharif’s Dargah in 1996, 2010 and 2017.
