Avoid travel to these areas of Delhi during G20 Summit

Special CP (traffic) Surender Singh Yadav issued guidelines for travel during G20 Summit

NEW DELHI: Delhi Police unveiled a detailed traffic management plan on Friday and suggested people to avoid travelling to areas categorized as “controlled zone” and “restricted zone” during the G20 Summit next month.

New Delhi district, which encompasses Bharat Mandapam – the venue of the summit, has been designated “controlled zone-I” from 5 am on September 8 to 11:59 pm on September 10, 2023.

The area within the Ring Road (Mahatma Gandhi Marg) will be classified as the “regulated zone” for the same time period.

Speaking at a press conference, special commissioner (traffic) Surender Singh Yadav said that the police have unveiled a virtual helpdesk with the goal of ensuring a seamless travel experience during the upcoming G-20 Summit.

The virtual help desk has been designed to provide citizens with crucial traffic information, updates on road closures, suggestions for alternative routes, and travel advisories to navigate the city efficiently and avoid potential disruptions, he informed.

“To prioritize public safety and the convenience of the general public, specific vehicular regulations will be enforced in the National Capital Region (NCR), particularly in New Delhi District and its neighboring areas,” stated the officer.

Only authorized vehicles, emergency vehicles, bonafide residents, and vehicles carrying passengers bound for the Delhi airport, Old Delhi and New Delhi railway stations will be allowed to travel beyond the Ring Road toward New Delhi district.

Furthermore, certain roads and junctions will be designated as the “controlled zone” from 12 am to 2 pm on September 10, informed Yadav.

Commuters are urged to avoid travel to areas falling within the regulated and controlled zones, he said.

Metro Rail services will remain operational at all metro stations. However, boarding and deboarding at Supreme Court Metro Station – which is situated just a few hundred meters from the venue – will be suspended from 5 am on September 9 to 11 pm on September 10.

“The overarching objective is to facilitate hassle-free movement for the general public. All essential services will be provided without obstructions, ensuring smooth access to destinations. Medical emergency vehicles will have unrestricted movement throughout Delhi,” he added.

The G-20 Summit will see the participation of heads of state from 29 countries, along with invitee countries and heads of international organizations. The event presents a platform for India to showcase its values, cultural heritage, infrastructural advancements, and event management capabilities. “As Indians, we should embody the essence of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ in front of our foreign guests and fulfill our fundamental duties to ensure the smooth conduct of the summit,” emphasized Yadav.
