New Delhi: Marvel Studios has officially begun filming Avengers: Doomsday, the highly anticipated fifth installment in the Avengers saga, set to release on May 1, 2026. Directed by the Russo Brothers, the film promises to be a multiverse extravaganza, bringing together iconic superheroes from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), X-Men, and Fantastic Four.
The star-studded cast includes returning MCU legends like Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Anthony Mackie (Captain America), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), and Tom Hiddleston (Loki). Joining them are X-Men veterans Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), and Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), alongside Fantastic Four newcomers Pedro Pascal (Mr. Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn (Human Torch), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Thing).

The biggest surprise, however, is Robert Downey Jr.‘s return—not as Iron Man, but as the villainous Doctor Doom, a role that has fans buzzing with excitement.

The plot remains under wraps, but early hints suggest a multiverse crisis that pits the Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four against Doctor Doom. The film is expected to set the stage for Avengers: Secret Wars, expected for release in 2027.
Fans are speculating that the movie will explore the concept of “incursions,” where parallel universes collide, leading to catastrophic consequences.

Notably absent from the cast are fan favorites like Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, and Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange. Marvel Studios has hinted that these characters may appear in the sequel, Secret Wars.
Scarlett Johansson‘s Black Widow and Chris Evans‘ Captain America are also missing, as their characters concluded their arcs in Endgame. Fans have expressed mixed reactions, with some disappointed by the omissions but others excited about the new additions.
Marvel is known for creating surprise elements and introducing diverse superhero characters, so it’s possible that iconic figures like Wolverine, Deadpool, Jean Grey, Scarlet Witch, Silver Surfer, etc., or even villains like Thanos, Apocalypse, Kang, or even Galactus, etc., could make an appearance.
