IMD: Red alerts for heatwave in north, heavy rain in south

A persistent heatwave has engulfed northern India, with temperatures soaring to unprecedented levels across several states. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi are expected to experience heatwave to severe heatwave conditions until May 23. Meanwhile, Rajasthan will face similar conditions for the next three days, and Uttar Pradesh until May 21. The scorching temperatures have also been forecasted for Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh until May 23, Uttarakhand until May 22, Bihar, and West Bengal on May 20, Jharkhand until May 21, and Odisha until May 23.

Teen arrested for multiple voting, repolling ordered

A teenager was arrested in Etah district, Uttar Pradesh, on Sunday after a video of him casting multiple votes went viral on social media. The video, which shows the boy voting eight times in favor of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at a polling booth in the Farrukhabad parliamentary constituency, was widely shared by political figures including Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi.

Fourth suspect arrested in Nijjar murder

Canadian authorities have arrested a fourth Indian national in connection with the murder of Khalistan separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Amandeep Singh, 22, was charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder, making his first court appearance on May 11. This arrest follows the earlier detention of three other Indian nationalsโ€”Karan Brar, Kamalpreet Singh, both 22, and Karanpreet Singh, 28โ€”who were arrested on May 3 in Edmonton.
