UP Police arrest four for alleged attack on Bhim Army founder Chandrashekar Azad Rawan
NEW DELHI: Uttar Pradesh Police has claimed to have nabbed four persons who allegedly were involved in a shooting at Bhim Army founder and Azad Samaj Party head Chandrashekar Azad Ravan on Sunday.
The attackers have revealed that they were “angry and annoyed” over the statements given to Azad in the past few months on several occasions.
The DIG (Deputy Inspector General) Saharanpur, Ajay Kumar Shahni, said that the facts and revelations that the accused have revealed are yet to be verified. The police are further interrogating all four accused.
Of the four accused, Vikky hails from Haryana’s Karnal, while the other three – Vikas Kumar, Lovish and Prashant – are from Rankhandi village in Deoband, Uttar Pradesh. “Of the four accused, three have previous criminal records, like attempts to murder and robbery,” DIG Shahni said.
Azad was shot near the Deoband flyover on June 28 when he was heading home from Delhi. He was sitting in his Toyota Fortuner when these attackers, in a Swift Dzire car, opened fire at him.
The attackers had opened four rounds. Azad had a narrow escape as a bullet brushed past his waist. However, one of his co-passengers was hit on the hands.

“Four teams of UP Police were working and one of them managed to nab the attackers from Haryana’s Ambala. They have already been taken to Saharanpur,” DIG Shahni said.
On the question of any caste or political rivalry, Shahni said, “All angles are still being probed. Their statements are inconsistent and we are collecting all the facts.”
The police said all four are in their early 20s. The two country-made pistols, which were used in the crime, have also been recovered.
They also said that the attackers were planning to surrender to the Haryana Police before they were caught.
