NEW DELHI: GNN, a Pakistani news channel, is facing severe backlash following a controversial segment on a recent live TV debate discussing the Israel and Palestine crisis. The viral clip, posted on microblogging site X on November 24, has ignited a storm of criticism for its anti-Hindu remarks made by panellists, including renowned Pakistani defence experts.
During the discussion, one panellist posed the alarming question to the host and fellow panellists, “How to wipe out the entire Hindu population on earth?” Another guest on the panel was quoted as saying, “If we (Pakistan) attack India with nuclear weapons, all Hindus will be eliminated, but Islam will be safe in 58 countries.” The video has intensified tensions between the two nations and highlighted the complex relationship they share.

For the unversed, back in 2019, Pakistan’s Punjab Information and Culture Minister, Fayyazul Hussain Chohan, had openly criticised Hindus by calling them “Cow Urine Drinking People”.
He said, “Hey, you cow urine-drinking people, listen up. We are Muslims and we have a flag, the flag of Maula Ali’s (AS) bravery, the flag of Hazrat Umar’s valor (AS). Don’t operate under the delusion that you’re seven times better than us. What we have, you can’t have, you idol-worshippers.”
Chohan had faced severe backlash from senior members within his party (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf) due to his condemnatory comments about the Hindu community.
However, in response to the attack on the minorities, Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Special Assistant on Political Affairs, Naeemul Haque had tweeted, “The derogatory and insulting remarks against the Hindu community by Fayyaz Chohan the Punjab Info Minister demand strict action. PTI govt will not tolerate this nonsense from a senior member of the government or from anyone. Action will be taken after consulting the Chief Minister.”
As per reports, approximately 1.6 per cent of Pakistan’s population adheres to Hinduism, making it the second-largest religion in the country. The PTI government includes seven Hindu members in the National Assembly and four minority members in the Punjab Assembly.
