New Delhi: In a clear indication that AAP is giving more responsibilities to Delhi Revenue Minister Atishi, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday wrote a letter to Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, stating that in his absence, Atishi will hoist the national flag on August 15.

Kejriwal, currently in jail concerning the Delhi Excise Scam case, addressed the flag hoisting ceremony in his letter. He mentioned that Minister Atishi would hoist the national flag on his behalf, as he could not attend the ceremony due to his incarceration.

Atishi, an Oxford graduate, currently holds several portfolios and is one of the main leaders of AAP. By allowing her to hoist the flag on Independence Day, Kejriwal has sent a clear message that she may lead AAP in Delhi in his absence.

Atishi has been the prominent face in all campaigns since Kejriwal’s arrest. During the protests against Kejriwal’s arrest, her videos and photos went viral, including an incident where she was stopped heading towards DDU Marg where AAP Headquarters is located.

Now, her influence has grown within AAP. In the upcoming elections in February, she may be the front face of the party in Kejriwal’s absence.
