GUWAHATI‘s longest flyover, the Nilachal flyover, was inaugurated by chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in capital Guwahati on Wednesday. The 2.6-kilometer flyover connects Maligaon and Pandu Ghat Feeder Road, two major areas of the city.
The flyover was built at a cost of ₹420 crore and took two years to construct. It is made of steel girders and required the involvement of over 1,500 skilled professionals.
During the inauguration ceremony, CM Sarma announced plans to build 1,000 more bridges across Assam, including a bridge that would rival the Mumbai Sea Link bridge in terms of charm and beauty.
He also said that a corridor would be built around the Kamakhya temple, similar to the Kashi Vishwanath temple corridor in Uttar Pradesh.

The Nilachal flyover is expected to ease traffic congestion in the Maligaon area and reduce travel time for commuters. It will also improve access to the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport.
The inauguration of the flyover is a major milestone in Assam’s infrastructure development. It is a sign of the state’s commitment to improving connectivity and reducing traffic congestion.
