NEW DELHI: Apple’s advanced AI features might not remain free indefinitely. The company is considering launching a subscription-based service called “Apple Intelligence+” to monetize these capabilities.

Gurman, renowned for his reliable Apple reporting, while talking to reporters said that Apple Intelligence will start as a free service. However, he suggests that Apple may eventually monetize these advanced features, similar to their approach with services like iCloud. Basic features are free, but additional capabilities may require a subscription in the future.

Gurman mentioned that Apple sees a chance to eventually charge for AI features and other software, although this transition will be gradual. While Apple Intelligence will begin as a free service, the goal over time is to generate revenue from these capabilities. Gurman also pointed out that Apple might earn a share of subscription fees from third-party AI partners who integrate their services into Apple’s platform.

This move towards a subscription model suggests that Apple is aiming to expand its sources of income. By emphasizing AI and enhancing user experience, Apple plans to lead in this technology while also generating substantial revenue. This strategy aims to lessen Apple’s reliance on traditional hardware sales and establish a reliable income stream from its growing AI services, as suggested by Gurman.

As of now, Apple has confirmed that its advanced AI features, branded as Apple Intelligence, will be available exclusively on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. While it’s expected that these capabilities will also be included in the upcoming iPhone 16 series, which hasn’t been officially announced yet, nothing has been confirmed.

Gurman also suggests that the upcoming iPhone 16 lineup won’t feature extensive hardware changes. This indicates that Apple is shifting its focus towards software and services, leveraging its AI innovations as a key competitive advantage in a crowded market. The 2024 iPhones are anticipated to be unveiled in September, following the annual release schedule.
