Apologise for disrespecting India in London: Rajnath Singh to Rahul Gandhi

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh started the Parliament proceedings by asking Rahul Gandhi to tender an apology for demonising Indian democracy in his London speech. “Rahul Gandhi went to London and tried to malign the image of India. He told the world that Indian democracy is in shambles and invited a foreign power to intervene. This should be unanimously condemned by the Parliament. And he should on this forum apologise for making such insensitive remarks” he said.

While addressing British parliamentarians in London recently, Gandhi alleged that the functioning microphones of Opposition leaders in Parliament malfunction to silence the Opposition. Gandhi attacked the BJP-led government at the Centre and levelled several allegations saying that Opposition leaders are snooped on and that democracy in India is under threat.

In a tweet Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said, “It’s most unfortunate that one MP of India went to London and appealed foreign countries to intervene in the internal matters of India. We all are proud of our democracy and cherish our democratic legacies. Indians will never ever allow the foreign powers to rule India again.”

 

On the first day of the session, Congress President & LoP Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge chaired a meeting of Congress MPs at the Congress Parliament Party office in Parliament. MPs Sonia Gandhi and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury were present among others at the meeting. The Congress continues to demand a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) probe into the allegations related to the Adani Group.

In Cambridge, the Congress MP again alleged that the Opposition’s voice was being stifled in Parliament.

A stormy session is expected with the opposition parties gearing up to continue to corner the government on issues such as alleged misuse of probe agencies to target their leaders, allegations against the Adani Group, border standoff with China, price rise, and unemployment. The Congress continues to demand a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) probe into the allegations related to the Adani Group.
