Summary

Anurag Thakur and other BJP leaders filed a police complaint against Gandhi, citing charges including assault and attempted murder.

NEW DELHI: MP Anurag Thakur accompanied by several National Democratic Alliance (NDA) MPs, staged a vociferous protest outside the Parliament House today. The demonstration was in response to an alleged scuffle involving Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, which resulted in injuries to two Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs.

The incident in question occurred on December 19, when a confrontation between NDA and Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc MPs escalated near Parliament’s Makar Dwar. BJP MPs Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput reportedly sustained injuries during the altercation, leading to accusations against Rahul Gandhi for physical assault.

In the wake of the incident, Anurag Thakur and other BJP leaders filed a police complaint against Gandhi, citing charges including assault and attempted murder. Thakur stated, “We have filed a complaint with Delhi Police against Rahul Gandhi for assault and incitement. We have mentioned in detail the incident that happened today outside Makar Dwar, where NDA MPs were protesting peacefully. We have given a complaint under Sections 109, 115, 117, 125, 131 and 351.”

The protest led by Anurag Thakur today aimed to press for an apology from Rahul Gandhi. While holding placards and raising slogans, the demonstrators accused the Congress leader of undermining parliamentary decorum and demanded accountability.

In response, the Congress party has denied the allegations, claiming that the BJP is orchestrating these events to divert attention from other pressing issues. Meanwhile, the Congress also filed a complaint at the same police station, accusing BJP leaders of misbehaving with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and demanding charges for “assault, grievous hurt, and battery”.

The confrontation has intensified the ongoing tensions between the ruling NDA and the opposition INDIA bloc, disrupting parliamentary proceedings and leading to a charged political atmosphere. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has reportedly issued strict instructions barring any political party from holding demonstrations at the building gates of Parliament House to prevent further escalations.

As the situation develops, both sides remain steadfast in their positions, with the BJP demanding stringent action against Rahul Gandhi and the Congress alleging a politically motivated smear campaign.
