Islamist radical democrat Ilhan Omar was on Thursday removed from the powerful US Foreign Affairs Committee on account of her anti-semitic remarks. The Minnesota representative is known for catering to Islamist radicals and being soft on countries that provide safe haven to terrorism. Omar is also known to make anti-semantic and anti-India comments.

The House Committee on Foreign Affairs Republicans is a powerful committee. It is a standing committee of the US House of Representatives with jurisdiction over bills and investigations concerning the foreign affairs of the United States. It considers legislation that impacts the diplomatic community, which includes the Department of State, the Agency for International Development (USAID), the Peace Corps, the United Nations, and the enforcement of the Arms Export Control Act.

Republicans put forth the motion to remove Omar, one of three Muslims serving in Congress, as she was considered unfit to serve on such an important and powerful panel owing to her past remarks. Omar’s democrat friends gave passionate speech on the floor of the House accusing Republicans of racism and Islamophobia.

After being ousted, an unapologetic Omar tweeted: “My critique of our foreign policy, Israeli’s policy towards Palestinians or that of any foreign nation will not change. As a person suffered the horrors of war and persecution, my advocacy will always be for those that suffer because of the actions of governments.”

The former Somali refugee, in June, 2022 introduced a resolution in the House of Representatives condemning alleged violations of human rights and religious freedom in India. She asked the U.S. Secretary of State to designate India as a “country of particular concern.” The resolution was co-sponsored by Congresspersons Rashida Tlaib, Juan Vargas, and Jim McGovern.

Earlier that year she made a controversial trip to Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) giving assurance that United States Foreign Affairs Committee would highlight “reports of human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir” and so-called lack of religious freedom with respect to Muslim minority in India. She had on many occasion accused India of being anti-Muslim and prodded the Biden administration to take a firm stand against Narendra Modi government.

Her visit to Pakistan was condemned by the Indian External Affairs Ministry as “narrow minded politics” to cater to her domestic audience. The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi had called her visit “to a part of the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir that is currently illegally occupied by Pakistan as a violation of India’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.” Later, it was clarified that Omar’s visit was not sponsored by the US government.
