The West Bengal police, under Mamata Banerjee’s regime, seem to have forsaken the basic courtesy one would expect to give to a departed soul.
Not only have they failed miserably in controlling the attack on Ram Navami processions, but they appear to have failed to check the recent killings of young girls in the state.
To make matters worse, West Bengal police once again failed to accord basic courtesy as they carried the dead body of an unidentified girl in an undignified manner.
The incident prompted the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, the country’s apex child rights body, to send a letter to Malda Superintendent of Police Pradip Kumar Yadav to submit a detailed report within 24 hours.
Tagging Mamata Banerjee’s official Twitter handle, Priyank Kanoongo, NCPCR chief, tweeted, “Today again a girl child has been found dead in Kaliachak, Malda, of West Bengal, whom the police are again taking away in this humiliating manner.”
“@MamataOfficial ji’s government is proving incapable of protecting the girl child and is not even able to protect the dignity of their dead bodies,” Kanoongo tweeted.

The letter issued to SP Malda asks for a factual action taken report along with other listed information to be submitted to the commission within 24 hours.
Terming how the police personnel carried the body of the deceased as undignified and disrespectful, NCPCR asked Malda SP to take necessary action against the involved persons.
The New Indian has learned that all four assistant sub-inspectors involved in carrying the dead body have been suspended.
Meanwhile, the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also came down heavily on the insensitivity shown by the state police.
“It is another day in Mamata Banerjee’s West Bengal, another minor girl is found dead. This time it is in Malda’s Kaliachak. Yet again, the girl is being carried away in the most insensitive manner. There is no dignity even in death,” Amit Malviya, the BJP’s state co-in-charge, tweeted.
“Last week, we saw similar rape and murder of a young girl in Kaliaganj, Uttar Dinajpur. But WB police is busy saving the criminal. Locals are irate and burnt down the Kaliganj police station this afternoon. They are accusing the police of cover up and are demanding CBI inquiry (sic),” he added
“Mamata Banerjee should be ashamed. Her incompetent handling of West Bengal’s affairs is costing precious lives, that too of young girls, who could have lived a full life…” he further added.

“Another minor girl murdered in WB.She is found dead in Malda’s Kaliachak. Police has displayed insensitivity again in carrying her body. These killings are very disturbing. Police is busy in cover up than ensuring safety. Shame on @MamataOfficial (sic),” tweeted Sukanta Majumdar, president of the BJP’s Bengal unit.

The incident came to light after the body of an unidentified girl, said to be a minor, was found lying in an agricultural field in Malda district.
A few days ago, the body of a 17-year-old girl belonging to the Rajbongshi community was found in a suspected rape and murder case. During that time, West Bengal came under fire for how they carried the body of the young girl. But it seems the West Bengal police seem unaffected by any such criticism.
