NEW DELHI: Highlighting price rise, unemployment, communal tension and a host of other issues, Congress on Thursday released a report titled โ8 Saal, 8 Chhal, BJP Sarkar Vifalโ as the Bharatiya Janata Party-led central government completed eight years in power.
Speaking to the media, party general secretary Ajay Maken said, โThe promise of โAchche Dinโ was a rhetoric, and questioned for who did the good times come for.โ
Hitting hard at the government, the former union minister said, โThe most important catch-phrase before the polls was โachche din aayengeโ. Today the question that people, as well as Congress, is asking is who is enjoying the good times?โ
โIs it for the BJP who has got properties worth over Rs 5,000 croreโฆ Or for the ultra-rich who are earning Rs 1,000 crore or moreโฆ Or for those 142 richest people who earned Rs 30 lakh crore even during Covid times,โ the Congress leader asked.
He also said India has slipped from the 55th to 101st on the Global Hunger Index. Maken also pointed out that the country had climbed down on several other international indexes like Press Freedom, Gender Gap, Rule of Law, Social Progress, Democracy Index and Food Security.
Talking about rising cases of religious violence in the country, Maken said, โEveryone knows wherever violence or riots took place due to religion, BJP has been involved directly or indirectly. This is BJPโs agenda.โ
Meanwhile, Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala also said that BJPโs disastrous policies contributed to the severe fall of the Indian economy.
โWhat was once the fastest-growing economy, is now in turmoil thanks to the BJPโs eight years of misgovernance,โ Surjewala said.
Surjewala further said that the BJP government is breaking all records in hoodwinking its people.
First, by setting petrol-diesel prices high by increasing excise duty and then reducing it a bit to showcase itself as a pro-people government. โAre these the โachhe dinโ you waited for so long?โ he questioned.
