Despite facing criticism for allegedly glorifying violence and misogyny, “Animal” has proven to be a box office juggernaut, surpassing ₹532.77 crores in India alone. This monumental success marks a career milestone for Ranbir, solidifying a milestone of India’s cinema.
NEW DELHI: In a recent conversation with Film trade analyst Komal Nahta, director Sandeep Reddy Vanga revealed that Parineeti Chopra was the first choice for ‘Animal’ and not Rashmika Mandanna.
The film starring Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Triptii Dimri and Bobby Deol, has become one of the most commercially successful releases of 2023, crossing Rs 500 crore at the box office.
Chopra was initially considered for the pivotal role of Geetanjali, instead of Mandanna in the final cut. Vanga confessed, “Actually, galati mera hi hai. I said, ‘Ho sake toh maaf karo mujhe. (I was at fault actually, I said forgive me if possible).”

He explained that despite signing Parineeti one and a half years before the shoot, he couldn’t envision the character of Geetanjali in her during the look test. Vanga admitted that certain characters do not fit some actors.
Vanga, who has claimed himself to be instinct-driven when it comes to casting decisions, elaborated, “Kuch kuch characters kuch kuch logo ko set nahi hota hai (Some characters do not sit well with some people).”

Despite being a long-time admirer of Parineeti’s acting, the director revealed that he had also considered her for the role of Preeti in “Kabir Singh”. Chopra was replaced by Kiara Advani opposite Shahid Kapoor.
Parineeti, though initially upset, understood Vanga’s perspective. He shared, “She felt bad but she understood why I was saying that. I always wanted to work with her. I told her, ‘Sorry, nothing is bigger than the film. So I’m taking this decision and going ahead with another artist.’”
