NEW DELHI: In a shocking gunpoint robbery in the Lahori Gate area of North Delhi, an Angadia trader was targeted and robbed of a cash-laden bag, with the amount estimated to be around โน60-70 lakhs. The exact figure is yet to be confirmed. Angadia traders, known for operating as an informal courier system for cash transfers across states, have been under increased scrutiny due to the high-risk nature of their transactions.
The incident occurred on Monday, March 17, in Haider Kuli, Chandni Chowk, within the jurisdiction of the Lahori Gate police station. Captured on CCTV, the brazen act took place around 6 p.m.
According to police reports, the assailant, armed and wearing a mask with a head cap, confronted the trader at gunpoint. The video footage reveals the criminal firing a warning shot before snatching the bag full of cash and fleeing the scene. The bystanders, despite witnessing the one-minute encounter, did not intervene, leaving the victim to face the ordeal alone.
ACP North Kotwal, Shankar Banerjee, shared details with The New Indian, stating, โHis name is Afzal, and he is an Angadia trader. He took money from Kucha Ghasiram area. It was a gunpoint robbery; the robber robbed him in Haider Kuli and fled.โ He further added, โThe money is around 60-70 lakhs, but exact figures arenโt clear till now. The investigation is in progress.โ

The North District police have launched an extensive investigation into the case. Teams are meticulously reviewing CCTV footage and interrogating the trader to reconstruct the sequence of events and identify the culprit.
