VIJAYAWADA – In a bid to ensure that every citizen in the state has access to top-notch healthcare, the Andhra Pradesh government launched an initiative called ‘Jagananna Arogya Suraksha,’ which has garnered significant public interest. In just one day, 315,000 residents have availed the project’s benefits at health department facilities, demonstrating the substantial response from the public.

As of the latest update on October 17, a remarkable 7,496 camps have been successfully organised, providing essential healthcare to over 32.7 lakh citizens.

Remarkably, in just one day, an astonishing number of over 3,15,000 citizens engaged in these outreach programmes, establishing a new record that exceeded the prior attendance of 2,60,000 participants.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, speaking at the programme’s launch on September 30, emphasised the government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that every person has access to high-quality healthcare.

According to him, the Aarogya Suraksha camps are looking to achieve a significant stride toward achieving this goal, empowering communities with comprehensive healthcare services.

This initiative not only strengthens primary and secondary healthcare systems but also instils hope and confidence in the residents of Andhra Pradesh, assuring them that their health is a top priority for the state government, the CM said.

Envisioned to encompass all 1.6 crore households in the state, this far-reaching endeavour has been taken up in the form of ‘Jagananna Aarogya Suraksha’ camps at over 10,000 locations, offering comprehensive coverage across all 15,004 secretariats within Andhra Pradesh.

Furthermore, the healthcare initiative has engaged the medical community extensively, collaborating with specialised doctors from prominent organisations such as the Indian Medical Association, Arogyasri Network Hospitals Association, and Andhra Pradesh Super Speciality Hospital Association.

These medical experts are delivering exceptional care to the citizens, resulting in over 31.40 lakh individuals seeking consultations and experiencing improved healthcare services.

In a concerted effort to facilitate the smooth execution of this campaign at the grassroots, the state government has mobilised an impressive team of over 21,000 dedicated Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs) and Community Health Officers (CHOs).

These professionals are tasked with conducting extensive health screenings, a vital step in the initiative’s success. As of now, an impressive 3.52 crore citizens have completed their health screenings, underscoring the broad reach and impact of the programme.

Moreover, this extensive network of ANMs and CHOs has effectively reached out to and covered over 1.35 crore households, ensuring a comprehensive approach to healthcare at the grassroots level.

During the household screening, citizens undergo a series of seven rapid tests designed to diagnose a variety of chronic and communicable diseases, ensuring a comprehensive health assessment.

In the most recent update, an impressive tally of over 5.94 crore rapid tests have been conducted for the citizens of Andhra Pradesh, highlighting the extensive reach and magnitude of this vital healthcare initiative.

Andhra Pradesh has exhibited an overwhelming response to this groundbreaking initiative. Large numbers of people are flocking to the camps set up across the state to avail themselves of the benefits provided by the government.

Through this people-centric reform, Andhra government has not only significantly impacted healthcare accessibility but has also set a commendable benchmark in reshaping and improving the lives of its people.

Selvarani, 30, a homemaker residing in Kongareddy Palli near Chitoor, told The New India, “I attended the ‘Jagananna Aarogya Suraksha’ programme at Chittoor Sachivalayam, where I had an unexpected health incident. As I was conversing with the doctors, I suddenly fainted. Upon regaining consciousness, I found myself surrounded by all the doctors who provided excellent care.

“They promptly arranged for an ambulance to transport me to the government hospital, where I received further treatment. I am immensely grateful to all the doctors who attended to me during this critical time.”

The YS Jagan Mohan Reddy-led government embarked on this initiative on September 30. It is aimed to eradicate preventable health challenges, transcending societal barriers of class, caste, religion, gender, and economic disparity.
