SRINAGAR: Security forces avenged the killing of Kashmiri television artist and singer Amreen Bhatt by terrorist organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) on Wednesday.
Security forces gunned down four terrorists, including two who are involved in the killing of Bhatt, in two separate operations in Awantipora and Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir, the police said on Friday.
The security forces also arrested one hybrid terrorist along with arms and ammunition from the Bemina area of Srinagar.
“At about 2133 hours, on a specific input generated by Awantipora Police regarding the presence of terrorists in village Aghanzipora of Awantipora, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police, Army (55RR) and CRPF (130Bn) in the said area. During the operation, the terrorists fired indiscriminately upon the search party which resulted in the encounter,” the police said.
“In the ensuing encounter, two local terrorists identified as Shahid Mushtaq Bhat, resident of Hafroo Chadoora, Budgam and Farhan Habib, resident of Hakripora, Pulwama, linked with proscribed terror outfit LeT were killed,” the police added.
IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar later said that both the killed terrorists had recently joined terror ranks and were involved in the killing of artiste Amreen Bhat in the Chadoora area of Budgam on the direction of LeT Commander Lateef.

Meanwhile, Srinagar police acted on input about terrorist movement from South Kashmir to the city. “The police tracked their presence in the Soura area of Srinagar. During the search operation, the terrorists fired indiscriminately which led to an encounter,” the police said.
“In the ensuing encounter, two terrorists of terror outfit LeT were killed. The terrorists have been identified as Shakir Ahmad Waza and Afreen Aftab Malik both residents of Trenz Shopian,” the police added.
As per police records both the terrorists were part of groups involved in several terror attacks including attacks on police and security forces.
Incriminating materials and a huge cache of arms and ammunition were recovered from both the sites of the encounter.
Moreover, in another action, Srinagar Police along with security forces arrested one hybrid terrorist of proscribed terror outfit LeT from the Bemina area along with arms and ammunition.
“Acting on a specific tip-off about the movement of terrorists in Bemina, a joint checkpoint was established by Srinagar Police, 2nd RR and valley QAT CRPF at Bemina Crossing,” the police said.
“An individual suspiciously approaching the checkpoint was challenged. He tried to flee but was apprehended by the alert party. He has been identified as Nasir Ahmad Dar, son of Abdul Ahad Dar resident of Gund Brath Sopore. One pistol, one magazine and five live rounds were recovered from his possession,” the police added.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the arrested accused was working as a hybrid terrorist for the terrorist organisation LeT. He was involved in delivering pistols in Srinagar city to carry out targeted killings,” the police said.
