NEW DELHI: Amity University Uttar Pradesh, in collaboration with Bharat Forge Ltd. Pune organized “Bhartiya Raksha Vimarsh” on July 10. The event was focused on the theme of “Defence Technology & Integrated Joint Warfighting Perspective”.
The event saw insightful discussions and marked the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at bolstering the industry-academia partnership in the defence sector.
Chief Guest Shri Baba Kalyani, Chairman and Managing Director of Bharat Forge Ltd., emphasized the importance of technological innovation in defence, highlighting India’s potential in becoming self-reliant. He stated, “All big defence manufacturers are being replaced by young startups, and the whole world is moving towards AI. Once Quantum Computing and AI are rigorously used in the manufacturing industry, there will be unlimited opportunities for India. These opportunities are rare, and not many countries have them. Therefore, it is up to us to make the most of these opportunities and make India technologically the most advanced country, in the defence sector as well.”
Kalyani underscored the role of youth and startups in driving technological advancements, particularly in AI and quantum computing, which he believes will open new avenues for India on the global stage.
Dr. B.K. Das, Distinguished Scientist and Director General (ECS) at DRDO, emphasized that India is moving towards taking the lead in the manufacturing sector. He stated, “Export is very important for the economy to grow and has grown to 2.63 billion dollars in the last year, which is a testimony of excellent growth.” He outlined a comprehensive strategy encapsulated in the acronym INDIA: “INDIA, wherein I stands for Industries, N for National Forces including the MSMEs, D for DRDO, I for Incubation Centres, and A for Academics, which together will pave the way for national development.”
Chancellor of Amity University, Dr. Atul Chauhan, expressed gratitude towards Shri Baba Kalyani for inspiring the students with his success story. He highlighted Amity’s pioneering role in offering M.Tech in Defence Technology and emphasized the pivotal role of today’s youth in shaping India’s future.
The MoU signing ceremony was a pivotal moment, according to Prof (Dr) Balvinder Shukla, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, who emphasized the alignment of academic curricula with industry demands. Dr. W. Selvamurthy, President of Amity Science Technology and Innovation Foundation, underscored the university’s commitment to research and innovation, crucial for advancing the defence research ecosystem.
The event also featured engaging sessions on topics such as “The Transforming Landscape of Warfare” and “The Technological Revolution in Military Operations”. Eminent speakers including Air Marshal Anil Chopra and Lt Gen Dushyant Singh provided valuable insights into contemporary defence challenges and technological advancements.
Attended by faculty, students, and dignitaries from tri-services institutions and the NCR, the event served as a platform for meaningful discourse on national security and defence strategy. Lt Gen (Dr) SK Gadeock, AVSM (Retd), Director General of Amity Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies, highlighted the event’s role in enhancing awareness and understanding among students.
