SRINAGAR: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to evaluate the security framework in Jammu and Kashmir following a surge in terror incidents that claimed several civilian lives. This marks his first security review after the recent Assembly elections in the region, with the last such meeting held in June.
Security forces have prepared comprehensive presentations to address emerging challenges anticipated in the coming year.
“The Home Minister will examine the strategic security roadmap for the next year, especially focusing on undetected infiltrations reported by multiple agencies,” a senior official told The New Indian.

Ground-level security adjustments made after the latest attacks are expected to be scrutinized. “Border defence forces, including the Army and BSF, have conducted extensive reviews along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB) to address gaps, yet infiltration attempts persist,” the official added.
J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will represent key stakeholders in the meeting. Other participants include Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Intelligence Bureau Chief Tapan Deka, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, the heads of CAPFs, and senior officials from Jammu and Kashmir.
Recent Home Ministry data reveals a spike in infiltration attempts along the LoC and IB in October and November. While cordon-and-search operations have intensified, the ratio of terrorists neutralized remains a concern.

In 2019, security forces eliminated 142 terrorists. This year, the figure has dropped to around 45, indicating a worrying trend.
Civilian safety remains a critical issue. Although civilian fatalities have decreased from 50 in 2019 to 14 as of November this year, this number is significantly higher than the five recorded last year. Officials emphasize that safeguarding civilians will be a key agenda point in Shah’s review.
