MUMBAI: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Smriti Irani, accompanied by her husband Zubin Irani, attended the wedding ceremony of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant at the Jio Convention Centre in Mumbai.
The grand event saw a gathering of celebrities, business tycoons, and politicians, all celebrating the union of Mukesh and Nita Ambani’s youngest son.
Despite her recent electoral loss in Amethi to Congress’s Kishori Lal Sharma by 1.6 lakh votes, Irani attended the wedding with grace and dignity. Irani, who had famously defeated Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Amethi in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections by 55,000 votes, faced significant social media backlash from Congress supporters after her defeat. However, she appeared unperturbed, donning a red saree with golden flower prints, while her husband wore a navy blue outfit. The couple posed for the paparazzi before entering the venue.

Following her electoral loss, Irani took to social media to express her gratitude. “Such is life… A decade of my life going from one village to another, building lives, nurturing hope & aspirations, working on infrastructure,” she tweeted.
Recently, Rahul Gandhi extended support to Irani, urging his followers to refrain from derogatory comments, stating, “Winning and losing happen in life. I urge everyone to refrain from using derogatory language and being nasty towards Smt. Smriti Irani or any leader for that matter. Humiliating and insulting people is a sign of weakness, not strength.”
The wedding of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant marked the culmination of a long engagement and numerous pre-wedding festivities, including a three-day celebration in Jamnagar and a Mediterranean cruise. The couple’s engagement took place in 2022 at the Shrinathji Temple in Nathdwara, Rajasthan.

The pre-wedding celebrations in Jamnagar, held from March 1 to 3, saw the attendance of the entire Ambani family. Irani had also attended the pre-wedding ceremony of Anant and Radhika. The picture of Irani and Zubin along with Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates in Jamnagar went viral on social media. In that picture, Smriti was wearing a stunning Benarasi saree while her husband looked dapper in a peach-coloured kurta pyjama.
The festivities attracted numerous Bollywood A-listers, including Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, and many others.
The wedding itself was a star-studded affair, with the Ambani family posing for photographers and making a grand entrance. Nita Ambani carried a traditional Raman Divo lamp featuring an idol of Lord Ganesh, symbolizing the dispelling of darkness and the bestowal of blessings upon the couple. Mukesh Ambani and the rest of the family also made a stylish appearance, contributing to the grandeur of what many are calling the “wedding of the century.”
