HC judge says no GRP personnel was present in his coach and no pantry car worker catered to his request during his train journey
NEW DELHI: A judge of the Allahabad High Court has sought explanation from the railway for inconvenience caused to him during a train journey from New Delhi to Prayagraj last week.
Justice Dr Gautam Chowdhary, accompanied by his wife, travelled in the first AC coach of Purushottam Express, which departed three hours after the scheduled time on July 8 “causing frustration and discomfort to His Lordship”.
“In spite of repeated intimation to the TTE, no GRP personnel were found in the coach to meet the requirements as desired by His Lordship,” reads a letter written by the high court registrar (protocol) Ashish Kumar Srivastava to the North Central Railway general manager.

He further complained that the pantry car workers failed to attend to Justice Dr Gautam Chowdhary’s requests for refreshments, despite repeated calls for assistance. Furthermore, when the judge attempted to contact pantry car manager Raj Tripathi, his calls went unanswered, aggravating the already frustrating experience.
The court seeks to understand the reasons behind their alleged misconduct and dereliction of duty, which led to the inconvenience faced by His Lordship during the journey.
The incident caused “significant inconvenience and displeasure” to the judge, the registrar (protocol) wrote in his letter.

“In this regard, the Hon’ble judge has desired, that explanation may be called from the erring officials of the Railways, the GRP personnel and the Pantry Car Manager pertaining to the inconvenience caused to His Lordship due to their conduct and dereliction of duty,” the court registrar wrote.
Meanwhile, North Central Railway’s chief public relations officer (CPRO) Himanshu Upadhyay, has confirmed to have received the complaint from the judge. In response, the railway zone has requested a written explanation from relevant departments.
