PRAYAGRAJ: The Allahabad High Court has agreed to hear a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking recognition of Shahi Idgah mosque as Krishna Janmabhoomi in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh.

The petition was filed by lawyer Mahek Maheshwari before a bench of Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal and Justice Prakash Padia in February.

The plea was dismissed in default on January 19 last year on account of the absence of the petitioner, who was appearing in person.

“The application for restoration of the petition was filed immediately thereafter. For the reasons stated in the application, the same is allowed,” the court order dated February 17, 2022 reads.

The high court is scheduled to hear the matter on July 25, 2022.
