NEW DELHI: Congress leader Alka Lamba, contesting from the Kalkaji assembly constituency in the upcoming Delhi elections, has declared assets totaling โน3.41 crore in her affidavit. Atishi, on the other hand, has declared a net worth of โน76.93 lakh, with neither a car nor a house in her name.
Lamba, who previously contested from Chandni Chowk in 2020, reported an increase of โน20.12 lakh in her financial assets over the past five years.
The affidavit reveals that Lamba owns movable assets worth โน61.12 lakh, while a dependent holds additional movable assets valued at โน14.36 lakh. Her declaration also includes a 500-square-foot commercial flat in Gurugram, currently valued at โน80 lakh, and a residential property in Delhiโs South Extension-1, worth โน2 crore.
For the financial year 2024-25, Lamba reported an income of โน8.28 lakh, slightly lower than โน8.91 lakh in 2023-24 but higher than โน5.35 lakh in 2022-23. Notably, she did not list any jewelry in her affidavit.
The Kalkaji assembly constituency has become a key battleground for major political parties. Lamba is up against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate and Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, as well as BJPโs Ramesh Singh Bidhuri, who has previously represented Tughlakabad thrice.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Lamba strongly criticized Bidhuri, accusing him of making derogatory remarks about women. โMy BJP opponent, Ramesh Bidhuri, has repeatedly insulted women with derogatory remarks. He once said the roads of Kalkaji would be like the cheeks of a woman. This level of disrespect towards women is unacceptable,โ Lamba said, emphasizing that the BJP should focus on development rather than demeaning women.
Lamba also highlighted accusations of misconduct against BJP leaders, referencing incidents involving Haryana BJP chief Mohan Lal Badoli, Uttar Pradeshโs Kuldeep Singh Sengar, Karnatakaโs Prajwal Rewanna, Himachal Pradeshโs Hansraj, and Swami Chinmayanand. She accused the BJP of shielding individuals accused of serious crimes, saying, โThe government shielded them, and when they were released, they were welcomed back with open arms.โ
Referring to a controversial statement by BJP spokesperson Neha Shalini, Lamba said, โA BJP spokesperson claimed women are judged by their looks for opportunities in the BJP. This mindset is why we need to protect our โbetisโ from the BJP.โ
Before filing the nomination on Jan 14, Lamba also inaugurated her election office in Kalkaji, accompanied by former MLA and senior Congress leader Subhash Chopra. The Congress campaign aims to position Kalkaji as a crucial contest in the Delhi elections, with Lamba vowing to prioritize development and womenโs empowerment.
