Alia Bhatt dazzles in Sabyasachi saree at Met Gala 2024

NEW DELHI: Bollywood star Alia Bhatt turned heads at the Met Gala 2024, held at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on May 6, 2024. This marked her second appearance at the prestigious event, where she captivated attendees in a stunning Sabyasachi saree adorned with intricate embroidery and precious gemstones.

Aligning with the event’s theme “Sleeping Beauties Reawakening Fashion,” Alia’s attire was a harmonious blend of traditional Indian elegance and avant-garde style. The 23-foot-long train of her saree, detailed with hand-embroidered florals using silk floss, glass beading, and semi-precious gemstones, beautifully encapsulated the theme’s essence.

Alia’s Instagram post revealed the immense effort behind her celestial look, crediting Sabyasachi for creating the masterpiece that required a staggering 1965 man-hours and the dedication of 163 craftsmen, embroiderers, artists, and dyers. Her heartfelt gratitude towards the artisans and craftspeople resonated with fans and fashion enthusiasts worldwide.

Expressing her excitement and gratitude, Alia shared with the media, “Creating this has been quite an experience, fun and stressful in equal parts. It has taken a collective effort of 163 dedicated individuals, including master craftspeople, embroiderers, artists, and dyers, investing a total of 1965 man-hours to create this ethereal saree. As I wear this outfit, I feel incredibly grateful to embody this exquisite creation.”

Despite her fans’ enthusiastic support, Alia’s absence from the foreign press “Best Dressed” lists like Vogue, New York Times, BBC, and Vanity Fair sparked discussions. Alia’s choice of the Sabyasachi saree resonated with the theme’s essence. She shared, “When I thought of the theme ‘The Garden Of Time,’ I thought that there is nothing more timeless than a saree.” Her graceful presence and attention to detail reaffirmed her status as a fashion icon, leaving a lasting impression on the global fashion stage.
