NEW DELHI: Alia Bhatt, along with the Kapoor family, recently had the honour of meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi to commemorate the centenary of Raj Kapoor, the legendary Bollywood filmmaker and actor. During this special meeting, Alia shared a delightful and memorable moment with the Prime Minister that quickly went viral.
As they engaged in a candid conversation, Alia asked PM Modi a fun and lighthearted question: “Do you listen to music?” Modi’s response, filled with warmth and humour, left everyone smiling. He said, “Main sun pata hu kyunki mujhe acha lagta hai. Kabhi mauka mil jata hai toh main zaroor sun leta hu.” His simple, down-to-earth reply about finding time for music was well-received and added a personal touch to the meeting.

Alia, in her characteristic enthusiastic style, spoke about the unifying power of music, particularly Hindi songs. She shared how Raj Kapoor’s iconic songs continue to connect people worldwide, irrespective of language barriers. “Gana jo hai jo duniya ko unite karta hai, especially jo hindi gana hota hai vo log gaate hi rehte hai,” Alia expressed, reminiscing how she had once seen a clip from Africa where people were joyfully singing a Raj Kapoor song.
Later in the conversation, Alia continued her reflections on music and its role in uniting people. She even fondly recalled how travelling and witnessing the widespread love for Raj Kapoor’s songs made her realize the global influence of his work. Alia’s admiration for the power of music and its ability to transcend borders struck a chord with both PM Modi and the public.

The actress also highlighted the “Raj Kapoor 100 Film Festival,” a major event celebrating the filmmaker’s work, which will feature 10 of his most celebrated films. This festival, spanning three days from December 13 to December 15, will be held in 40 cities across India, showcasing the timeless legacy of Raj Kapoor.
