NEW DELHI: As the upcoming INDIA alliance meeting in Mumbai approaches, discussions over its prime ministerial candidate have gained momentum, with several of its constituents vying for their leaders.
The spokesperson for the Samajwadi Party, Juhie Singh, advocated for Akhilesh Yadav’s consideration as a potential PM candidate, citing his capabilities and the potential benefits for the INDIA Alliance.
Singh emphasized the coalition’s strength, highlighting that every decision would be made through consensus, and each party member aspires to witness their leadership ascend.
The focus remains on addressing public concerns and safeguarding the constitution, rather than pursuing personal positions. She further elaborated on these points, she later clarified.

Similarly, a spokesperson from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) suggested that party chief Arvind Kejriwal could be a suitable PM candidate. Priyanka Kakkar emphasized Kejriwal’s track record of raising people’s issues and his model that has effectively curbed inflation in Delhi.
However, senior AAP leader Atishi clarified that Kejriwal was not in the race. “It should be treated as the official party position,” she told reporters.

Though Rahul Gandhi remains the frontrunner for the position of prime challenger to PM Modi, several other leaders have also been tipped to harbour the desire. Bihar CM Nitish Kumar is said to be among them. However, he officially maintains that he is not in the race.
Leaders of the INDIA alliance, a coalition of 26 opposition parties, are gearing up for a two-day conference scheduled in Mumbai on August 31 and September 1. Established with the collective goal of contesting the 2024 Lok Sabha elections against the BJP, this alliance aims to unite the diverse voices of opposition against a common political backdrop.
