Amid the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict, Asaduddin Owaisi backs Palestine
All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi has ignited a fresh controversy with his response to the ongoing conflict between the Palestinian militant group Hamas and Israel. Owaisi expressed his support for Palestine and Gaza while condemning the violence, primarily attributing it to Israel.
Taking to the microblogging site, X, he shared a photo of Jerusalem’s Al-Aqṣā Mosque and wrote, “Hands of GAZA, Falasteen Zindabad. Violence Murdabaad (mainly by Israel or any Group/organisation). Masjid e Aqsa Aabad Rahe.”
This isn’t the first instance of Owaisi siding with Palestine over Israel. Just a few days back, he asserted that India has historically stood with Palestine. He also claimed that India’s stance on the Palestinian cause shifted when the Congress party came into power.
Referring to a past video of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee expressing support for the Palestinian cause, Owaisi stated, “A late BJP leader once said about Palestine that land worth billions has been acquired. We had released a postage stamp in solidarity with Palestine. This stance shifted when Congress came into power.”
The conflict between Israel and the Hamas terror group entered its fifth day on Wednesday. Hamas militants launched unprecedented attacks, firing rocket barrages and infiltrating Israeli cities, resulting in the tragic loss of at least 1,200 lives, marking it as the deadliest attack in the country’s 75-year history, as reported by the Israel Defence Forces.
In response, Tel Aviv declared war against the militant group and initiated a massive airstrike campaign in the Gaza Strip and its vicinity. Gaza officials reported over 900 casualties as Israel continued its air strikes.
The Israel-Palestine conflict traces its origins back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries when Zionist Jews began migrating to Palestine, then part of the Ottoman Empire, with the objective of establishing a Jewish homeland. This movement eventually led to the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948, resulting in a war between Israel and its Arab neighbours and the displacement of Palestinian Arabs.
