Pointing out ‘discrepancies’ in the ongoing Agniveer recruitment rally in the state, Uttarakhand tourism and culture minister Satpal Maharaj has requested the centre to conduct an investigation into the matter.

“Due to many discrepancies, the youth of Uttarakhand are returning home disappointed. Therefore, this recruitment to be done under the Agniveer scheme should be investigated,” said Maharaj. He also spoke to union minister of state for defence Ajay Bhatt requesting an inquiry into the matter.

Pointing out the discrepancies, Maharaj said that during the Agniveer recruitment, 300 youths from the state are being run together and out of that only 8 or 10 youths are being selected, whereas in the past, on an average, 60 out of 300 were selected.

The recruitment rally in the Pauri district is going on from August 19 and will continue till August 31.

“The youth who are recruited say that the rules are being ignored during the recruitment. The running time is 5:40 seconds for 1600 meters, but they are made to finish the race in just 5 minutes,” Maharaj said. “The prescribed height for the soldiers recruited from Uttarakhand should be 163 centimetres, but in this rally, it’s set at 170 centimetres,” the minister added.

More than 1,08,000 candidates have registered for recruitment across the hill state. Despite the issues, one can witness the enthusiasm among the youth as they participate in various physical tests in the ongoing rally in Ranikhet and Kotdwar in Uttarakhand state.

A total of 4756 candidates from three tehsils (Kotdwara, Rikhnikhal and Pauri) of Pauri Garhwal district were registered to appear on day five (August 23, 2022) of the Army recruitment rally being held in Kotdwara for the recruitment of Agniveers. A total of 4374 candidates appeared on the day.

A total of 3654 candidates from four tehsils of the Nainital district were registered to appear on day four (August 22, 2022) of the rally being held in Ranikhet for the recruitment of Agniveers. A total of 2741 candidates appeared on the day.

A total of 30,684 candidates have registered under various categories of Agniveer Soldier General Duty, Technical, Clerk/SKT and Tradesman across the four districts under ARO Almora – Almora, Bageshwar, Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar.
