On the sidelines of Aero India 2023 in Bengaluru, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met members of the Kannada film industry including KGF star Yash and Kantara star Rishab Shetty.

Karnataka BJP tweeted, โ€œPrime Minister Shri @narendramodi met Karnataka film stalwarts in Bengaluru. He discussed their contributions to culture, new India, and the progress of Karnataka (sic).โ€

However, it was the presence of an Instagram influencer Shraddha aka Aiyyo Shraddha โ€” known for making millennial-friendly viral humorous content โ€” that caught everyoneโ€™s attention. She later shared that the Prime Minister knew of her and greeted her with the word โ€œAiyyoโ€ which is how her name is prefixed on her social media properties. She was taken aback by the fact that the Prime Minister was aware of the content she put out on social media. โ€œNamashkar, yes, I met the Honorable Prime Minister of our Country. His first word to me was โ€˜Aiyyo!โ€™. I am not blinking, thatโ€™s my โ€˜O My Jod, he really said that, this is really happening!!!!โ€™ look. Thank you @PMOIndia!,โ€ she tweeted.

Kantara and KGF have been two of the highest-grossing pan-India hits, last year that firmly put Kannada cinema on the map of the entertainment industry. Down South, itโ€™s Telugu cinema that has dominated the pan-India market. But with KGF, and Kantara doing exceptional business across India, Sandalwood โ€“ the colloquial way of addressing the Kannada film industry has also shown a lot of potential in terms of creating cutting-edge and profitable content.
