SRINAGAR: The Ministry of Home Affairs announced on Thursday the transfer of senior police official Vijay Kumar to Delhi under the AGMUT cadre.
According to an official notification, with the approval of the relevant authority, Vijay Kumar, an IPS officer of the 1997 batch, has been reassigned from Jammu and Kashmir to the Delhi segment of the AGMUT cadre, effective immediately and until further orders.
During his tenure as Inspector General and Additional Director General of Police in Kashmir, Kumar focused extensively on counter-terrorism operations.
A native of Saharsa district in Bihar, Kumar holds a master’s degree from Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi.

Over the years, he has primarily served in conflict-prone regions of Kashmir, including Pulwama, Awantipora, Kulgam, and Anantnag.
Kumar stands out as the only IPS officer from the former Jammu and Kashmir cadre with expertise in tackling both insurgency and Maoist challenges, as well as managing law and order across multiple regions.
Notably, Kumar has unparalleled field experience in Kashmir among his peers and has served in the Special Operations Group, a specialized counter-terrorism unit of the J&K Police, in southern Kashmir.
