Adani Defence To Set Up South Asia’s Largest Ammo Plant In Kanpur

LUCKNOW: Adani Defence & Aerospace will set up South Asia’s largest integrated ammunition manufacturing complex in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh with an investment of Rs 1500 crore.

The company signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the state government during the groundbreaking ceremony of the third edition of the Global Investors’ Summit here on Friday.

The state-of-the-art ammunition development and manufacturing complex will be established in Kanpur Node of Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor, according to a statement.

The facility will be spread over more than 250 acres of land and will have best-in-class technologies to manufacture small and medium calibre ammunition, along with short-range air defence missiles.

It will employ 1,500 people and play of the role of a key facilitator in India’s goal of achieving USD 5 billion exports in defence manufacturing, the company said.

Speaking at the summit, Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani said the importance of having self-reliance in high quality ammunition and the manufacturing complex is Adani Defence’s endeavour towards equipping our Armed Forces with state-of-the art battlefield equipment.

On this occasion, UP additional chief secretary said that the upcoming project will prove a landmark in “the history of indigenous defence manufacturing” in alignment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s of self-reliant India.

“Aligned to the Make-In-India vision, Adani Defence and Aerospace has bolstered its vision to make the country’s defence manufacturing self-reliant with several such initiatives in the recent past, which includes India’s first unmanned aerial vehicles manufacturing facility and India’s first private sector small arms manufacturing facility,” said Ashish Rajvanshi, President & CEO of Adani Defence & Aerospace.

Highlighting the importance of achieving self-reliance in defence manufacturing, Rajvanshi said, “Unmanned platforms, short range missiles and ammunitions, cyber defence coupled with AI/ML driven analytics will become the decisive factors in the future wars and conflicts.”

In a related development, Adani Logistic Ltd, another company of the Adani Group, signed an agreement with Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) for development of logistic parks and ware housing complexes in the state.

To utilize potential of expressways in Uttar Pradesh and augment the rapid growth, the state government has decided to create ware houses and multi model logistic including industrial clusters along expressways.

These ware houses are expected to generate tremendous employment opportunities for skilled, semiskilled, and unskilled workforce, the government said.
