Actress Tanushree Dutta claims ‘Justice Hema Committee Report’ useless, calls for a stronger law enforcement

Tanushree Dutta calls Hema Committee useless

NEW DELHI: Actress Tanushree Dutta is known for being vocal about speaking on sexual harassment in the film industry.

Now, yet again she is in the limelight and this time too for the same reason, recently she has called the Justice Hema committee report useless on sexual exploitation of women in Malayalam Film Industry.

In a statement to a media house, she spoke about similar reports that have been made over several years, such as the Vishakha committee report, which took seven years to complete and included multiple pages of guidelines, but nothing has changed, including the discrimination against women and their stance in industry.

The Vishakha Committee report was released in 2017 following claims including actor Dileep of sexual assault against an actress who has worked in Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam films. The girl was abducted and allegedly assaulted inside her car for two hours in Kochi.

The Justice Hema Committee report also discusses cases of different treatment, violence, harassment, and discrimination against Malayalam actresses.

The research also discusses a criminal gang and power nexus that involves many actors, producers, and directors in the industry, which contributes significantly to gender inequity and pushes away actresses who are vocal about the issue.

Tanushree Dutta was also one of the actresses who in 2018 came forward and raised her voice during the ‘Me Too’ movement, accusing actor Nana Patekar of harassing her on the set of the film ‘Horn Ok Please’ in 2008.

Further, she also claimed that Nana Patekar and Dileep are narcissists and psychopaths. She also stated that such actors look down on actresses and such reports are pointless.

She also said that all of these reports are similar, just the name is changed, but what it actually requires is that the accused be behind the bars and a strong law is enforced to stop this, as actresses who speak out and come forward do not get work while such actors continue to work and receive projects.
