CHANDIGARH: Bollywood actor, Sonu Sood, on Sunday announced that his sister, Malvika Sood, will contest the Punjab polls, which are to be held early next year. However, he did not reveal the party choice.
In the past month, Sood has held separate meetings with the Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi as well as Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor and Delhi chief minister, Arvind Kejriwal. Sood, who comes from Moga in Punjab, had hit the news during the Covid crisis after he helped many migrant labourers get back home. Sood even earned the tag “messiah of migrants”.
While addressing a press conference at his residence about 170 km from Chandigarh, Sonu said, “Everyone in Moga knows that my sister, Malvika Sood, likes to work for public welfare. Few days back, she told me that she wanted to join politics. I personally believe that Malvika will work more actively for everyone to be elected to power.”
Speculations grew after Sonu Sood, recently met the chief minister of Punjab CM Channi, as also Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal who declared him brand ambassador for a “Desh ka Mentors” programme for school students.
“Party is not important, thinking and ideology is more important for me. I still remember how political people make big promises, but fail to keep. Thus, I came up with an idea that every person who get elected, must give an affidavit that if he or she fails will be completely responsible for their failure,” Sonu Sood said while adding that poor families of Punjab, suffering from Dengue will get Rs 5,000 as medical help from him and his family members.
On whether he plans to meet Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Sukhbir Singh Badal as well, Sonu Sood said, “Sukhbir Singh Badal has a big political experience. I am a common man and being a common man, if I get any opportunity to meet Sukhbir Singh Badal, I will surely meet him as well. He also said that his family members, including his sister Malvika Sood always worked for the common and she is learning from everyone.
“Politics is like ‘Zindagi bhar da rishta, Kai Sallan da Rishta, Lokan de Vishwash da Rishta’ (politics is like lifelong relation, relation for years and relation of trust). I am sure Malvika will surely keep her promises. If she fails to deliver, I will be the first person to ask her why she did not work for everyone in her working area,” Sood said.
Lastly, answering another question, Sonu Sood said that he will not compare the work of former Congress chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh and that of current chief minister Channi. He said that both worked well for the state.
