A 17-year-old girl student received critical burn injuries after a man threw acid on her face in Mohan Garden area of Delhi’s Dwarka on Wednesday morning.

As per the police, the Class 12th student was attacked when she was on her way to the school along with her sisters on Tuesday morning. Footage retrieved from a CCTV camera installed at the spot shows a pillion rider throwing acid at the girl.
She was admitted to Safdarjung hospital in the national capital with 8 per cent burn injuries. She is now out of danger, said Dwarka deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Harsh Vardhan.
Several police teams have been formed to nab the main accused. Police have detained the person who was driving the bike.
In a statement, the Delhi Police said that “some acid-like substance” was thrown at the girl at around 7:30 am in the morning on Wednesday.
“She came home screaming and we rushed her to a nearby hospital,” her father told the media.
In her statement, the girl has identified the attacker and his associate.
She was first taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital but later referred to Safdarjung hospital.
After the incident, National Commission for Women (NCW) and Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) have taken cognizance of the incident and issued notice to the Delhi Police.
In a statement, DCW chief Swati Maliwal also raised questions on the easy availability of acid in the open market in the national capital and demanded strict enforcement of the ban on retail acid sales.
Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has called for the punishment to the perpetrators. “This is not at all acceptable. How do these criminals dare to do such acts? They should be punished. Safety of every girl is our priority,” Kejriwal tweeted.
