NEW DELHI: In an embarrassment for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), a poster that the party had put up honouring freedom fighters included a photograph of a scholar from Bangladesh.

The poster, which was later removed, was put up in the Jamia Nagar area.

The matter came to the fore on Sunday when people spotted the poster with freedom fighters like Mahatma Gandhi, Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad, Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Shaheed Sukhdev, Shaheed Asfaqulla Khan and others.

What caught the people’s attention is the image of Maulana Mahamudul Hasan, who is an Islamic writer and scholar from Bangladesh.

After the gaffe was known, AAP removed the image of Islamic scholar Maulana Mahamudul Hasan of Bangladesh from the poster

Soon after, the error was spotted and the AAP MLA from Okhla Amantaulla Khan removed the picture of Hasan from the poster.

Sources said the party wanted to put the picture of Mahmud Hasan Deobandi, who is a co-founder of Jamia Millia Islamia. Sources said it was a clerical mistake by the party members who were tasked with the job.
