Punjab Chief minister Bhagwant Mann said on Sunday that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has taught the other parties how to do real politics by working on issues like health and education.

Appreciating the work and efforts done by the party’s national convenor, Arvind Kejriwal, Mann said, “From the beginning, we said that we have come not to do politics, but to teach politics. And this is what is happening now.”

“Those who used to fly in helicopters and wave their hands to get votes, now they are distributing handouts in lanes and door-to-door. We have taught them how to do politics,” Mann said during AAP’s national council meeting in New Delhi.

Mann said that Kejriwal and other AAP leaders had inspired him. Turning the clock back, Mann said that he would often listen to them when they used to address the crowd at Ram Lila Maidan during anti-corruption movements.

“Many of us have not been part of the party since its formation. But the work and speeches by them (Kejriwal and other AAP leaders) inspired us and led us to join the party. We quit our profession and joined this party because we know we can serve our country through this party only,” Mann, a popular comedian of his time, added.

Mann went on to say that the AAP is trying something new for the people’s benefit.

“For the people of Punjab, apart from fulfilling our promise of guarantees, we are doing many other things for the welfare of the state and its people,” Mann said.

“Recently, we restarted the closed coal mine in Jharkhand to get the coal for Punjab. The first coal rake from the mine reached Punjab recently. This will be a step to make Punjab self-dependent in power generation,” he added.

Mann also said that AAP is the only party that gives the youth a platform to reach Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha and become Chief Minister. “See the condition of Congress in Himachal. As of now, despite winning the elections, they could not constitute the cabinet,” he added.
