A political drama played out in Gujarat on Sunday late evening after the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) claimed that its party office in Ahmedabad was raided by the local police. However, hours after the claim, the Gujarat Police said that no such raid had been conducted.

AAP national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday reached Ahmedabad on his two-day visit in the state. He will be holding town hall meetings with the people belonging to various professional sectors. On Monday, he is meeting auto drivers, traders and advocates.

On Sunday evening, AAP leader Isudan Gadhvi tweeted that soon after Kejriwal’s arrival at Ahmedabad, a team of Ahmedabad police conducted a raid at the AAP office. “It went on for two hours. But the police could not find anything. They said that they will come again,” Gadhvi said.

Kejriwal tweeted that BJP is furious over the support which AAP is getting in Gujarat. “After Delhi, now the raid in Gujarat. Neither they found anything in Delhi, nor in Gujarat. We are staunchly honest and patriotic.”

Meanwhile, the Gujarat Police in its tweet clarified that there was no such raid conducted at the AAP office in Ahmedabad. The tweet was from the official handle of Ahmedabad Police in which it was said that they got the information about the police raid from social media. “No such raid was conducted by Ahmedabad city police,” said the police.

In Delhi, party spokesperson Saurabh Bhardwaj, however, claimed that the AAP has all the proof of the raid in which the Gujarat police officer came and conducted the searches at the party office.

“I dare Gujarat Police and the state government to hold a press conference and lodge a counterclaim. They should prove that we are lying. We have the name of the officers who came to our office,” said Bhardwaj.

Bhardwaj also said the raid was conducted for two hours. The officers searched our computers, files and diaries. “They actually thought that they would find something. Since, nothing was found, the Gujarat Police are now saying that no raid was conducted,” added Bhardwaj.

He also said today AAP is the number 2 party as Congress is no longer left in the state of Gujarat. The BJP is furious over the rise of AAP in the state. That’s why the raid was conducted. “But soon we will become the number 1 party in the state,” Bhardwaj added.
