AAP Bathinda Rural MLA Ruby Roots For CM Channi; Joins Congress

Bathinda rural MLA Rupinder Kaur Ruby joins Congress, within hours of quitting Aam Aadmi Party.

CHANDIGARH: In a setback to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) just before Vidhan Sabha elections, the AAP MLA from Bathinda Rural (reserved) Rupinder Kaur Ruby quit the party on Tuesday and joined Congress. 33-year-old first time MLA Ruby tweeted her resignation which was addressed to AAP national convener ad Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab unit head Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday night.

On Thursday, Ruby reached Vidhan Sabha with her supporters and told mediapersons that she will tender her resignation to Rana KP Singh. While talking with the media, Ruby said, “The Congress government in Punjab led by chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi did exemplary work in the last 50 days for every single common people of Punjab.” Also Read & Watch: Do Not Politicise National Security, Says Former Punjab CM On BSF Jurisdiction

She said that she has always been appreciative of the good work by Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi and had even praised him when she was with AAP. According to sources, Ruby had met chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi and All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary in-charge of Punjab affairs Harish Chaudhary just before her resignation on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, during a press conference, where Ruby joined Congress, CM Punjab Charanjit Singh Channi said that it is a matter of happiness that common people consider Congress party as party of common people. “We congratulate Ruby. She also told us that she is joining Congress to work as a true worker,” Channi has said.

Born on April 5, 1988, assistant professor turned politician Rupinder Kaur Ruby, was Aam Aadmi Party’s youngest MLA in the Punjab Assembly. She joined AAP early in 2013, and soon after, she was made zone-in-charge of 9 halkas (Assembly constituencies). She gave up her job at Bathinda Law College and started working full time for AAP from 2015.

Elected from the Bathinda Rural constituency, her maiden speech caught media attention in the very first Assembly session after the 2017 state assembly elections. In her speech, she questioned the legitimacy of former Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh’s ‘Captain Smart Connect’ scheme that promises to give smartphones to every youth who registered for it before the election.
