NEW DELHI: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced to support Opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha in the presidential elections scheduled for July 18.
The decision was taken at the Political Advisory Committee (PAC) meeting held at the residence of party supremo and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday, sources said.
AAP has 10 Rajya Sabha members from two states Punjab and Delhi.
Sinha, who was a minister in the Cabinet of Prime Ministers Chandra Shekhar and Atal Bihari Vajpayee, is fielded by the Opposition led by Trinamool Congress.
Sinha quit TMC before throwing his hat in the ring. Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar has already announced its support for Sinha.
National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led BJP has fielded Draupadi Murmu as its candidate for Monday’s presidential elections.
The counting of votes will take place on July 21.
