NEW DELHI:  Senior AAP leader and MLA Durgesh Pathak has accused BJP MPs of Delhi of orchestrating the demolition of slums and houses in various areas of the city through the departments under their control. In a press conference held on Thursday, July 18, Pathak highlighted the plight of the residents affected by these demolitions and criticised the BJP MPs for their inaction and lack of responsibility.

Pathak pointed out that houses in the Civil Lines area have been demolished illegally, displacing people who have been living there since independence. He noted that the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has aggressively targeted the homes of poor residents and continues to threaten further demolitions.

Adding to the urgency, Pathak mentioned that the Railways has issued a notice to demolish slums in Brar Square by July 22. Despite this looming deadline, BJP MP from New Delhi, Bansuri Swaraj, has yet to visit the affected area or address the concerns of the residents. Pathak asserted that if the slums were demolished, Swaraj would be held responsible as the railway department falls under her jurisdiction.

Pathak also criticised Praveen Khandelwal, the BJP MP from Chandni Chowk, for his absence in addressing the demolition of homes in his constituency. He lamented that no BJP MP is willing to take responsibility for these actions.

The AAP MLA emphasised that the demolitions are illegal and questioned the authority behind these actions. He demanded an investigation to determine who ordered the demolitions in Civil Lines and who was responsible for the notices issued in Brar Square. Pathak called for strict action against those behind these decisions.

Pathak concluded by stating that the Aam Aadmi Party will take this matter to court in hopes of securing justice. He accused the BJP of conspiring to destabilise Delhi and stressed the importance of holding the responsible parties accountable.

The ongoing demolitions have sparked significant controversy, with thousands of residents facing the threat of losing their homes. As the situation unfolds, the political clash between AAP and BJP over the issue continues to intensify.
